A metal stud finder that works...
Carl Hagstrom 3/19
Last month, there was a thread that discussed strategies for locating
metal studs. I seem to recall that it was suggested that a strong magnet
was the best tool for the job. For what it's worth, I just came across
a kick butt metal stud finder.
If you get the WOODWEB Update, you'll have read about an upcoming contest
where we're going to be giving away a pile of Little Wizard hand held
metal detectors. One of my first thoughts when I heard about this tool
was how it would do locating metal studs.
Let me tell you, it works great (I've included a photo I took of the
Wizard in action). I tested it out on a metal studded wall covered by
1/2 inch drywall - no way you can miss finding the stud. At $19.95,
it's a real bargain. We'll be announcing details of the upcoming drawing
soon, and if you can't wait, you can always visit the Little Wizard
Website for more details (link below). The tool also locates hidden
metal in boards, and might save that chop saw blade when your reusing
existing baseboard or casings, or planing down a door.
